African Hotel - Mount Nelson

BEST AFRICAN HOTEL
Mount Nelson
Set in lush grounds in the shadow of Table Mountain, this 110-year-old colonial hotel represents the languid splendour of another time: it opened the same year as the Boer War, and the young Winston Churchill was a regular guest. It is not without its critics (the food has been poor in recent years, although now greatly improved thanks to a new chef). But it has been a Telegraph readers’ favourite for the past ten years. The rooms are spacious and well appointed, the staff are gracious and friendly, the new Librisa Spa is a suitably glamorous retreat, and the famous afternoon teas served in the lounge are a welcome link to an elegant, leisured past.
