Best Cruise Company , Cunard

BEST CRUISE COMPANY

Cunard

The name Cunard is synonymous with elegance and style, and with a 170-year history the company is, to many, not so much a cruise line as a maritime institution. What it offers to contemporary cruisers is the opportunity to step back in time to the golden age of liner travel when men were gentlemen and ladies were the epitome of cool glamour, when days were spent languishing and nights enjoyed ballroom-dancing to a full orchestra.
Although Cunard’s famous QE2 has now gone (how many cruise ships are bade farewell by the Royal family?), there are already two successors, Queen Mary 2 and Queen Victoria, on the high seas, and a third, the Queen Elizabeth, will be launched next year. The liners may be bigger than the originals, but they still maintain the traditions that have made Cunard what it is. There are still sweeping staircases, glistening chandeliers and ballrooms, afternoon tea is still served by white-gloved waiters, and private lounges and dining rooms are still available to those who can afford it. Some 98 per cent of Cunard’s passengers vow to return, and presumably this is a feeling shared by Ultratravel readers.
